Devin Calem is an actor, a 2D character designer, a screenwriter and a singer with autism. He has always been interested in films like animation and acting on screen and theater, possibly because acting, drawing, writing and singing has always been easier for him than talking. When he was younger, Devin fell in love with creating movies and shows to one day to write and produce his own movies and shows such as animation and live action. Devin’s character design style was inspired by Disney, Chuck Jones’ Looney Tunes cartoons, DC animated shows, and Seth McFarland’s Family Guy. He use to have his dad to do the drawings for him but then he managed to do more drawings by himself since he was six. The action, the humor, wild and fantastic stories of so many kinds of movies and shows excited him and showed him the power of creating stories. He enjoys creating art that is screenwriting his animated stories, acting, singing and designing characters based on his animated movies and shows. While he was younger Devin was also inspired by the warmth of performing arts in the movies, television and plays where he saw actors from Star Wars, The Lion King and seeing his sister performing on stage. He started doing acting in school plays, drama camps in OSU and in community theaters at the same age ever since. The Emotion, the humor and the amazing wonderful performances also excited him and showed him the power of relating and bringing characters to life based on his own feelings and what he goes through as well.
Growing up with autism has invariably influenced his approach to art. His acting and singing development is influenced by Screen and Stage actors which helps him embrace his autism as well as film making. His unique approach is to bring a sense of humor and his own personal sensitivities to his acting performance and film making.
